Naomi

Recently purchased a new computer from the computer fair.

XP OS

I have 2 separate CD-ROMS

DVD id d:
CD-RW is e:

I can install games but I cant play games that have 2 or
more disks, they are the original disks, so should work.

I keep getting from both CD drives this error "please
insert correct CD-ROM and then press ok top restart
application."

I know that it isnt the software because the games run on
my sister's computer which is basically a spin off of
mine except that it has an all in one combo drive.

I am the administrator and I have tried all of
microsoft's fixes.

Can anyone please help me???

Stupid question here - you've tried the *other* disks in the set?

Which games? Check the game manufacturers' websites for patches -
specifically issues with copy protection. SOME drives give problems with
some versions of copy protection software, and will have patches or
workarounds.

Hi,

The only thing I can think of is that you might want to
try to download the latest drivers for the drives. Find
out the brand of them and model if you can and type that
into a search engine. Apart from that I don't have much
of an idea at the moment.

First, do all other CD's read OK????????

Saw this before.... It has something to do with the way
Windows reads the cd (that was a stupid statement) If
they work on another machine they should work on yours,
but only if the hardware is the same can you use another
machine as a true comparison. Games are a traditional
PIA.

If you're admin, try pulling a drive from the machine you
know works and just hooking it up to your box...
What happens? If the disk is now readable, it is most
likely in the drive(s) that won't work where the trouble
lies. Contact the vendor or mfr of the drive.

If it still dows NOT work the problem probably lies in
the way WIndows interprets the drive ID's and data from
these drives. Unstall the drivers, then power down.
Disconnect the data cables, pull the drives and verify
the jumpers are correct. Reboot Windows with the drives
disconnected. Tell your bios during reboot there are no
drives connected excerpt the hard drive.

You want the bois to see no drives AND windows not to see
any either.

Power down, connect the drives and power back up. Back
to bios and recognize the drives auytomatically. Reboot
windows and load any device drivers for the CDRW windows
asks for.

Windows should see the drives.

I had to do this to a non-standard cd a coupla of times
about a year ago. Since then no problems,...... go
figure.
