help and support

I have read all the messages and tried everything, but I can still not open
help and support. There is no help and support in the services, so I
downloaded the startmenuhelp.reg and double clicked, restarted - still no
help and support in the services. For some reason my msconfig was also
missing, but was able to redo the path in the registry to get it to work.
Thanks for the help and support!

Hi Otyokwa,

If the Help and Support service is missing, see this page to know how to
reinstate it:
http://windowsxp.mvps.org/helpsvc.htm

Download helpsvc.zip file and unzip the contents. Extract helpsvc.reg to the
Desktop and double-click to merge the contents to the registry. This
restores the Help and Support service entry.

This did not work. I double clicked and all that happened was it opened in
notebook. I right clicked and merged and the same thing happened. No Help
and support in the services. I also restarted and nothing in the services

Save the file to C:\Utilities folder. Then open a Command Prompt window
(cmd.exe) and run this command:

regedit.exe c:\utils\helpsvc.reg

The contents should be merged to the registry. Now, open Services.msc applet
and see if Help & Support service is present.

I don't know it this helps or not but I tried to do a system restore (from
the tools menu of msconfig) and what ever the restore point, the computer
would not restore to an earlier date. I have run 4 different virus/adaware
programs and nothing comes up (adaware/spybot/systemsmechanic 6/eTrust Virus)

Another way to merge the REG file is to start Regedit.exe, and use the
"Import" option available under the File menu.

I now have the help and support in the registry, but when I press help and
support in the start menu or the windows/pchealth...nothing happens. I tried
to do various fix it (kellys corner #235). and nothing has worked to get it
started. Is it possible to reinstall just the help and support?

Start with DLL registration. Proceed to next method if one fails to resolve
the problem.

Type in Start, Run dialog:

helpctr -regserver
regsvr32 itss
regsvr32 hhctrl.ocx
regsvr32 jscript

Fix Windows XP Help - from Doug's site:
http://www.dougknox.com/xp/utils/fix_windows_xp_help.htm

In that does not help, try reinstalling Help and Support Center using this
method:

Click Start, Run and type "%systemroot%\inf". Right-click the file
PCHealth.inf file and choose "Install". Insert your XP CD when prompted. If
you have a Service Pack installed, be sure to point to the
%Windir%\i386\ServicePackFiles folder, or your slipstreamed XP CD (if
available).

Here is the comprehensive rebuild method for Help and Support.

that tip.
