Help and Support Gone

When you click the Help and Support on the Start menu
notheing happens. I tried Doug Knox's fix,but it did not
work. I have not run a cleaner on my system, it has just
not been there. Dell has sent me 4 ways to try to fix,
but none work. You do get a brief moment of the cursor
turning into an hourglass. It only last a second.
Please help!

Hi Diana,

Dell has issues, as I have sent them the fix weeks ago. These guys really
need to share the word. <sheesh>

On a Dell system it will look like this: Start/Run/Regedit

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{2559a1f6-21d7-11d4-bdaf-00c04f60b9f0}\Instance\InitPropertyBag]

"CLSID"="{13709620-C279-11CE-A49E-444553540000}"
"method"="ShellExecute"
"Command"="Dell Solution Center"
"Param1"="c:\\Program Files\\Dell\\SolutionCenter\\DellSC.exe"

To return to XP Default, delete the Param1 line and modify the rest to
match:

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{2559a1f1-21d7-11d4-bdaf-00c04f60b9f0}\Instance\InitPropertyBag]

"CLSID"="{13709620-C279-11CE-A49E-444553540000}"
"method"="Help"
"command"="@shell32.dll,-12709"

Once done hit refresh, then Help and Support. If you are needing to remove
the link under Run and modify Online Support via IE as well, post back.

I don't know what Doug's suggestion was, and I couldn't even guess what Dell
told you to try. But the first thought that entered my mind was "Is the Help
and Support service running?"

To check if it is, go to Run... and enter SERVICES.MSC. When the window
loads, scroll down to Help and Support. Make sure it's set to Automatic and
that it has started, both of which can be set by right clicking on the Help
and Support line entry and selecting Properties.

I don't wanna step on any toes here, so if this has already been suggested I
apologize.

Doug's fix for after running Easy Cleaner (which there is now a workaround
for via the program) and it replaces these files:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\CLASSES\TypeLib\{FC7D9E00-3F9E-11D3-93C0-00C04F72DAF7}\1.0\0\win32
Default value: C:\WINDOWS\PCHealth\HelpCtr\Binaries\HelpCtr.exe\1

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\CLASSES\TypeLib\{FC7D9E00-3F9E-11D3-93C0-00C04F72DAF7}\1.0\HELPDIR
Default value: C:\WINDOWS\PCHealth\HelpCtr\Binaries\HelpCtr.exe\

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\CLASSES\TypeLib\{FC7D9000-3F9E-11D3-93C0-00C04F72DAF7}\1.0\0\win32
Default Value: C:\WINDOWS\PCHealth\HelpCtr\Binaries\HelpCtr.exe\2

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\CLASSES\TypeLib\{FC7D9000-3F9E-11D3-93C0-00C04F72DAF7}\1.0\HELPDIR
Default value: C:\WINDOWS\PCHealth\HelpCtr\Binaries\HelpCtr.exe\

Needless to say, this is not Dell's issue at all. What they have done is
overwritten the Help and Support for it to utilize Dell instead of XP's Help
and Support, which is ...... never mind.

Nope, you aren't. Keep up the good work. :blush:)
