I recently d/l Mandrake 10.1 for DVD, md5sum checked out ok, so burnt DVD.

Installed OK, apart from I don't have a network connection yet, it just wouldn't work during install.

Have yet to go back to it and spend some time with this thing.

No risk here, I have one of those disk caddies with 3 trays. 2 x 20Gb drives and 1 x 60Gb drive.

Currently have XP on the 60Gb, Win 98 on a 20Gb (old games) and now Mandrake 10.1 on the other 20Gb.

I have messed a little before with Mandrake 10.00 and Red Hat, but I really need to spend time at this thing, me still very much a noob ;)

Just thought, I didn't have any probs getting online with MD V10, strange V10.1 giving me probs.

Ok folks take your seats, the show is about to begin.

If I'm not back in an hour or two ... somebody else will have to turn off the lights.

Flops, that's one of the main problems I was having with one of the latest releases of Mandriva. It wouldn't pick up on my on board ethernet, and on some it didn't see the on board video.

Mucks, we'll leave the light on for you. :D Good luck :thumb:

I'm back, been a long day for me and I may turn in early ... yeah right.

I have an absolute load of "noobie" Linux questions to ask ... but the most important one ...

HOW DO I KNOW IF FaD IS RUNNING?

I'll be back as soon as I change my monitor and keyboard out ... actually, the keyboard works, I just pluged it in to USB and there poped up a box for me. :D

Ah, FaD ... Do I need to put it to sleep ... or do I just shut down and how do I do that. :D

I'm not sure about SuSe.. but look for System-Monitor-KDE System Guard (does SuSe use KDE or Gnome?) and in Process Table look for Think.
It should be using most of your cpu.
To stop it, highlight it there and Kill.

In Gnome- System Tools- System Monitor- look for "think" and "end process".

If you want to see where it at percentage-wise, go to the floder you have fad in and open a terminal and type in - ./server -list

edited for typo

KILL you say ... hmmm, OK

hehe ... now I know what it feels like to be a newcomer.

Yep ... We are using KDE and I found KDE System Guard ... great when we have the same things.

Surprised to see it only using 19% ?? but it's dead now ... I killed it.

Will it start back up on its own ... no I have to start it don't I .. uh oh, wonder if I can remember.

Oh ... good evening.

Very chuffed at the way Linux found this new remote USB keyboard (Belkin) ... I wonder if you can get Linux stickers to go on the Window Keys.

Catch you in a min or so while I change out the monitor.

It should be using up to 99%. When you open the Process Table, let it sit for a minute and "think" should go up in percentage.

I know that you can use a script to start FaD at boot up. I just don't like doing that in case you run into stability problems.
Otherwise to start FaD, go to it's folder, open a terminal and type-
./loader

I recently saw a Linux keyboard. It had the Tux penguin where the Windows keys usually are. :D

Ah ha, I can see :D

I was looking at the wrong colum in KDE System Guard ... it's running at 80/90% :thumb:

Great instructions ... they work. :D

This Belkin keyboard has no lights, never noticed, but I forgot to unplug the old one ... when I use Caps lock on the Belkin the light coms on the old keyboard ...

Next question ... is there a "thing" for TFT monitors like they have on windows ... dam, I can't remember what its called ... makes the fonts clearer ... oh, that's it "clear font" ... anything we can do, or is it a case of messing around.

For a cheap TFT this Videoseven aint 'arf bad ... at least I can see what I'm doing now. :D

Well, you can set the fonts in each program. Mozillla, Konquerer, Terminals, and files each have their own configuration settings.
Be sure to "save profile" to make sure it loads under that setting each time.
Linux takes a little tweaking, just like Windows. ;) :D

I think I found one little problem ...

I had a look at the monitor setting and it still 'thinks' I'm using the Iiyama ... when I "probe" it finds the the new one but I can't make it stick ... nor will it let me delete the old monitor.

Hmmm, need to reboot too ... to get
UK English to stick :D

Still playing ... the more I play, the more I like it. :thumb:
