Hi all....need some help here!
Ok, I have a file (a trojan) that simply wont die. My AV program detects but cant do anything with it, if i try deleting it myself I getthe "Access denied" message...this applies even if i go into safe mode, or try opening a command prompt window..then task manager...ending the explorer process and trying to dlete through the command window.
I have run every program that could kill it i have (and i have several...all fully updated) and even in safe mode it wont die.
I finally decided the only way to kill it is through good old DOS......and heres the problem:

I cannot find a way of making a boot disk that allows me access to the NTFS hard drive. I can find several that allow me to READ the drive...and even to UNdelete things....but not to delete a file. I've tried MoveOnBoot and the software from NTFS.Com.
I'm running a single PC with XP Home (SP1), i'm the admin. All my AV and windows software is fully updated.

Any clues??

Are you sure the virus isn't in a System Restore Point in the C:\System Volume Information
folder? Antivirus programs can't gain access to that folder. So, your system can be
clean, but a virus may be contained in a System Restore Point. The antivirus program
should tell you the location of the virus, and if it is in the System Volume Information
Folder, you can get rid of it by:

Right click the My Computer desktop icon, left click Properties. Click the System Restore
tab, click to put a checkmark in the box to the left of the option: Turn Off System
Restore
Then click the APPLY and OK buttons. Then reboot your system and all of the Restore
Points will be deleted, and the virus will be gone. Then right click the My Computer icon
again, click the System Restore tab, and click to remove the checkmark you put there, to
enable System Restore again. Then go to System Restore and Create a Restore Point (you
wouldn't want to be left with any Restore Points).

The only other thing I can think of is disconnecting any
network connections you may have (ethernet, modem,
whatever) and rebooting. Once you do that, see if it lets
you delete the file. Hope this helps. Best of luck.
