I have just built a p4 with a 2.26 processor on a abit board.I used the
stock heatsink/fan.It is running at 55c to 58c Can any of you recommend
a good heatsink that will cool it better.Thank you.

CPU cooling is not just down to a matter of type of heatsink and
fan....there are many other factors that need to be considered. Case size
and clutter, ambient room temp, the positioning and operation of case
cooling fans, ducting, to name but a few.

A google search will throw up a wealth of guidance in this respect.

Why bother.Your system is within spec. Why pay more money out for no
gain?

Thanks Shep.
I was wondering if it was running within the specs.

Thank you for trusting my post but to qualify my statement there's
plenty of proof to ease your mind as in,

and also ,
http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&lr=&ie=UTF-8&q=+p4++2.26+running+temp
Most modern CPUs have quite a high tolerance when it comes to running
temps under load(Under load is the only really important thing to
worry about) but I personally would never let mine or any I build or
work on run over 60 Deg C under load for any length of time.Anything
below this is OK.

Thanks again Shep.
The temps I told you are 55c to 58c no load.Maybe my case temps are why
it runs that warm.My case temps are 34c to 36c do you think I might need
better case fans.I have 2 one in front and 1 in back. The air coming out
of the back fan feels cool. But the air coming out of the p.s. feels
quite warm.Could the p.s. cause the case to be that warm. Also the case
fans are running at 2600 to 2700 rpm.My room temp is 78 or 80 degress.
the case is a good size case it is a mid tower enlight with a 360 watt
p.s. Thank again.

My case temp is 36C and p4 2.4 is at 41C while downloading and surfing..

Dumped Intel's HS and fan for a Zalman aluminum and copper "flower" heat
sink and fan about a year ago.
It also cools my video card and other components on the MB. Runs a lot
quieter than intel's setup.

I don't think you should worry too much however I don't like or
recommend too many case fans as there's a point of diminishing returns
because of vortices.
Tidy up your cables and try with just the 1 back case fan :p
