headphones

I have had my pc for 2 weeks. This is the first time I
have used XP. My problem is my headphones will not work.
I have JBl speakers which work fine, but when I plug in
the headphones I hear nothing.Any ideas? I have had every
version of windows and never had this problem. Thanks,
Linda

Assuming that you are plugging the headphones into the same jack as the
speakers I think it's safe to say that this is not a software problem. I am
pretty sure that XP is not aware of whether or not there is something
actually plugged into an analog audio port.

/Where/ do you plug in the headphones?

Dumb question on my part, but have you checked the headphones in something
else like a walkman or conventional stereo to isolate the problem?

Linda,

If you're plugging the headphones directly into the CD drive, try this:

Start>right click My Computer>Properties>Hardware tab>Device
Manager>DVD-CD-Rom drives>right click CD-Rom Drive>Properties>Properties
tab, uncheck Enable digital CD audio. . . .
