I have a long word document set up in Word 2003, with headings set up using
Styles. When it is opened in Windows 2007, the headings remain, but not the
number for each heading, except heading 1 (there are about 5 levels of
headings).

What can I do?
thanks

Hello Stefan

No, I tried that. Extra info - the document was amended using track
changes. When the tracked version is opened in 2007, all numbers are shows
as deleted (ie there but tracked as deleted). When I accept changes in 2003,
all fine, but when that version is opened in 2007, the numbers dissappear
(even though we accepted the changes in 2003, not in 2007, and after doing
that the numbers where still showing).

thanks

Further to my last message, I have been told that the track changes were
actually done on an apple mac, using office mac 2004 and microsoft for Mac.
But we can see and work without problem with the changes in Word 2003, the
problem only occurs in Word 2007.

thanks again

Sorry, I am not familiar with this issue. :-(

Unless someone else knows what's causing it, I can only suggest the
following: Take a look at
http://www.shaunakelly.com/word/trackchanges/HowTrackChangesWorks.html and
see if that sheds any light. If that doesn't work (it probably doesn't),
treat the document as corrupt, and copy its contents, minus the final
paragraph mark (Ctrl+A, Shift+Left arrow, Ctrl+C), and paste it into a new
document (Ctrl+V).
