I am formatting a document with 150 odd tables. Each table has it's unique
title with it's own number. For some tables the numbering is the same eg
7.2.1A, 7.2.1B etc.. My question is everytime I apply heading 3 it will
change the number to the next number. hw do i make sure that it keeps the
same number and then it continuous numbering eg. 7.2.1A, 7.2.1B, 7.2.2,
7.2.3, 7.2.4A, 7.2.4B. Thanks for the help

As far as I understand yr problem, you need to define a second level
for the A,B, etc (heading 4). I understand you have already H1 (for
the 7 in yr example) and H2 (for the .2 in yr example). Go into
outline numbering for level 4 (customisation) and change 1.1.1.1 (the
grey fields) into 1.1.1A . Make sure this "A" is a grey field so Word
treats it as a field.
