HDTV and ATI

I have an ATI AIW 8500DV and a Sony 4:3 aspect ratio HDTV (model
KV-32HS500). Great TV and video card but they don't seem to work
together well. I'm using the HDTV component video dongle from ATI and
the output is terrible! I can alternately connect my video card to the
sony HDTV directly(without the dongle) by using the DVI connector but
this limits me to a useless resolution of 640x480. Does anyone have
suggestions?

Are you employed by Sony. One of their service reps
said the same thing to me almost verbatim.

No... I have Hitachi projection TV and I tried for days to get it to work...
I gave up after wasting about $300 dollars. I will never buy any ATI product
again...

So what video board did you get that _did_ work?

I didn't get one to work.... My XBOX works great though....

Good. Have fun. If you didn't get any board to work though then why
are you singling out ATI for criticism?

I'm singling out ATI because they claimed to have Dongle that works with
HDTVs (in their manual they talk about the overscan problem but I don't
believe I saw that on the website before I ordered the dongle). I never
claimed to test other cards. All I know is that my XBOX has it right why
can't ATI? I'm also trying to prevent others for wasting their money

Well i have the AIW 7500 and i connect the ouput (DVI/VGA) to my LG
RU52SZ10 hdtv and it fills the whole display .resolution of the PC is
set to 1024X768 75hz

If it fills the whole screen on an HDTV at that resolution then the
image has to be stretched horizontally. 16:9 is 1366x768 or 1280x720.
Get one of the tweak utilities and see if you can set it to one of
those and you may find that you like the result a bit better.
