HD shows in Device Manager but not in My Computer

Hi All,

I have SCSI FAT16 drive that shows in Device Manager but does not show
in My Computer. Disk Management does not show the drive either and it
also seems to skip the drive completely. In other words Disk
Management show HD0, HD2 and HD3 along with my 2 DVD drives.

The FAT16 drive is formated and MS-DOS 6.22 is installed (I
multi-boot). When booted into WinXP Pro or Win98 SE the MS-DOS drive
shows up. When booted into Win2000 Pro the drive is listed in Device
Manager but does not show up in My Computer.

Any ideads how I can fix this?

Thanks for any help,

Charles

Hi,

By Disk Manager I 'assume' you mean Disk Management? It does not show
up in Disk Management. In fact, I should not have to set it up, as far
as partition/format, because it already is setup and formated with
FAT16/FAT.

Thanks for any other ideas,

Charles

If you have TweakUI installed, verify that all drives are checked in the My
Computer listing.

If you don't have TweakUI, you may want to download and install it to use this
feature:

The TweakUI utility for Windows 2000 can be downloaded from here:
http://www.microsoft.com/ntworkstation/downloads/PowerToys/Networking/NTTweakUI.asp

Hi,

TweakUI shows a check mark on all drive letters. But, the drive letter
that should be the FAT16 drive also shows a red X under the drive icon.

In Disk Management I can 'Rescan all drives' but when I do this I get
an error message telling me that I have unpluged a device in an unsafe
manner. It offers the option to add an unplug icon in the task bar but
I refuse this offer. So, for some reason Win2k thinks this drive is
un-plugable? Anyway, after the rescan the FAT16 drive is no longer
listed in Device Manager. If will not reappear until I reboot the
computer, but it only appears in Device manager, not in My Computer.

Thanks for any help,

Charles

Hi All,

I found the problem and fixed it. While searching the Adaptec web site
for help with my 39160 I found out that I have to terminate my 50 pin
connection, even though I had no drives plugged into it. I had plugged
a cable into it to extend it out the back of the PC because I use an
older tape drive that needs the 50 pin Centronics connection. Since I
had not plugged the tape drive in yet I am still required to terminate
the connection anyway.

Strange that Win98 SE and WinXP Pro did not have a problem with this
missing termination. Only Win2000 Pro did.

Hope this helps someone else down the road.

Thanks for everyones help,

Charles
