sata drive installation

I have just purchased and installed a maxtor 300gb sata hard drive . my
problem
is that the drive doesn't show up in my computer ,or add new h/w wizard
doesn't come up so I can format it . It shows up in device manager under disk
drives as maxtor scsi disk device.also shows on boot post screen,and in my
sata controller section in control panel . I run win 2k pro on a asus a7n8x
deluxe m/b ,win2k is on a 80gb ide .
I have done the big disk fix provided by maxtor ,also win updates with sata
controller update.
any help is apperciated

You can partition, format and assign it a drive letter in Disk Management.
Start|Run|diskmgmt.msc
