Having trouble downloading software

M

Mel

I have Windows XP. I recently purchased Microsoft Office
Student and Teacher Edition 2003 which required Windows
2000 or Windows XP. This program includes Word, Excel,
Outlook, and PowerPoint. When I insert the disc, it does
not "autostart" like all my other discs do AND it does
not show up under "drive D:" when I try to access it
through "My Computer". In fact, it acts as if there is
NO disc in the drive at all. Gateway said that it sounds
like I purchased a faulty disc so I returned it to the
store for an exchange and had them put the new one in
their computer to make sure it would start, which it
did. But the new disc won't work in my computer either--
it acts the same way the first one did. Why is this?
And what can I do to get this thing downloaded?

You should open MY Computer and right click on your D: drive
(whichever is your CD drive) and select refresh. If that
doesn't work, right click again and select properties. See
what that shows about disk reading.

Jim,
I tried what you said. Refresh didn't show any
information and right-click-properties showed "0" Used
space & "0" Free space. The light on my drive didn't
even come on--like the computer isn't even acknowledging
that there is a disk in the drive. Do you have any more
suggestions?

Joe,
But the system isn't rebooting itself. And other CD's
that I put in will autostart. And I've used 2 different
CD's of the same program with the same results BUT other
CD's will work fine. Is that characteristic of the
Blaster Worm? Thanks for your help.
