Having Some trouble Need guidance.

I am having some trobule with backups. Basically understanding some of the
procedures. For instance, last night I created a backup of the System State
to another computer over the network. Then I intentionally deleted some
registry entries. Rebooted the computer and it wouldnt boot, it would get to
the XP logo screen then reboot, over and over. Also no Safe Mode (same
result).

Now, what good does the backup of the system state do me on the other
computer. What am I missing? The computer I have wont boot.

In a Windows 2000 book that I have it walks you through a backup and restore
procedure that intentionally deletes the boot.ini, however it has you restore
it while the computer is still on and has never been rebooted. That would not
happen in a normal scenario. You wouldnt realize what you have done until you
rebooted.

Anyway can someone please explain, and I am open to any bashing for my lack
of knowledge. Thanks.

When you restart your computer hit F9 several times until a menu comes up
that says Choose how to start windows, or at the windows XP loading screen
hit reset, then when it prompts you to choose, Choose Safe Mode,
In safe mode, restore your computer to an earlier date, leave your computers
registry alone.

Jason,

Unfortunately working with computers there are going to be inherent
problems, including the registry. I am looking for solutions to these
problems. I intentionally fouled up the registry. Thanks.

For the future - buy an imaging program (www.acronis.com) and a 2nd HDD.
Create an image of your system drive, after you have it up and running, to
the 2nd HDD. To restore the image stick the bootable CD (that you created)
into the CD drive, boot and restore the saved image.

For now - you can put your XP (retail) or OEM (retail) CD in the drive, boot
and preform a REPAIR install. Do NOT press "R" for recovery console, that
will not help you. Follow through as a normal install and you will get to a
screen that asks if you would like to repair an existing installation. If
that screen does not appear the system can not be reaired and will require a
complete install. THIS DOES NOT WORK WITH OEM RECOVERY CDs.
