Having problems w/XP freezing...

I have been having "freeezing" ssues with Xp for several weeks. Lately
it has begun affecting even Windows Explorer. I first noticed the
problem in Internet Explorer when it would freeze for a while on
opening and, later, when pages, pictures, or midi files were
right-clicked and saved.

Now it has degenerated to the point where I can no longer move files
from one folder to another. Attempting to do so only causes the WE to
freeze. Also, right-clicking in a WE frame/panel/window has the same
result.

Here are a few of the messages the Event Viewer gives:

1. WARNING
Removable Storage Service
Event ID: 128
The device number of a(n) CdRom drive cannot be determined. This
device failed to configure. This event may be logged several times
for the same device.

2. ERROR
NETLOGON
Event ID: 3095
This computer is configured as a member of a workgroup, not as a
member of a domain. The Netlogon service does not need to run in this
configuration.

3. ERROR
Service Control Manager
Event ID: 7000
The mrtRate service failed to start due to the following error:
The system cannot find the file specified.

4. ERROR
Service Control Manager
Event ID: 7009
Timeout (30000 milliseconds) waiting for the Ati HotKey Poller service
to connect.

5. ERROR
Service Control Manager
Event ID: 7023
The Application Management service terminated with the following
error:
The specified module could not be found.

This last error message is by far the most frequent.

Any pointers or assistance will be gratefully received.

saying I need to reboot and try again.

Thanks!

Fred

I have a common error with Claudelle (the one regarding
mrtRate service failing to star. I would also love to get
it resolved.

I posted a seperate message regarding it so as not to tag
my question onto Claudelle's post.
(See "I have an error in common with "Clau." "Fred"

Claudelle - I've read that this error(regarding mrtRate)
may have something to do with Quicken, but I have had no
resolving it, and am currently wondering if there is a
different cause.

Thank you for the assistance, Fred.

I had not run across this piece of information so, at the least, it
gives me something to work from.
