having problems w/ xp after upgrade from 98

I just installed xp on a pc previously running 98, the
installation went ok but when i logged on with a user
name that i created though xp it worked but then when i
would try to use something on the desktop it would look
for that file though the previous user name that was on
win 98. also when i log on the internet the connection
works, but when i use internet explorer all i get is a
dns error. Please help!

Did your XP upgrade keep the old username and you just created a new one?

We have noticed several misc. errors when upgrading any OS from pre-XP to
XP. We no longer will do upgrades, but recommend a clean installation.

Having problems with XP upgrades is not uncommon. Wish I had better news.

Is there a solution to this problem with out doing a
clean install though?
