I have downloaded PowerPoint viewer but can only open pps files I receive if
I save them 1st then open through the viewer. If I double click a pps file I
receive the message "this file does not have a pgm associated with it for
performing this action. Create an association in the folder options ctl
panel". Did go to file types and picked the viewer for 'Opens with' but still
having problems.

If you have both the full version of PowerPoint and the viewer
installed, than the file associations will remain with PowerPoint. This
means if you double click on a PPS file it will open as a show from
PowerPoint.

If you do not have the full version of PowerPoint installed, than the
associations have become corrupted.

In either case, you need to re-associate the PPS file with the correct
program. See ...

Thank you Bill for your answer. However, I had just found the answer from an
earlier post in Nov 2004. Due to xp sp2 needed to install viewer 97 as well
and rename 2003 viewer exe to ppview32. This solved the problem.

Again thank you for responding. Barbara.
