Have lost Internet Explorer!

A friend has lost Internet Explorer (icon and from
add/remove programme)so web pages give error message 'the
page cannot be displayed' He can however get Messenger but
still cannot view his hotmail account or Outlook Express.
What can be wrong?

If no joy then please give us more information as to when he gets these
errors.
It could be something to do with secured sites.
