Have I got a full WindowsXP CD, with SP2 slipstreamed?

My computer supplier has provided a CD that is labelled "Product Recovery
CD-ROM". But they say it is in fact a full Microsoft WindowsXP Pro CD,
slipstreamed with SP2. (Computer supplied December 2003.)

How do I tell if the CD is in fact a full XP version, with SP2 slipstreamed?

When I put the CD in a drive, it shows up under My Computer as XPPRO W-SP1.
On the screen I get a window saying "Welcome to Microsoft Windows XP", with
the flying-window logo. It continues "What do you want to do?" One option is
"Install Windows XP". Another option is "Browse this CD", and doing so shows
a file called "WIN51IP.SP1".

So there are some mentions of SP1, but no mention of SP2.

When I right-click My Computer, Properties, General, and look at the code
there, OEM is amongst the numerals.

Although the CD seems to be an OEM product, is it possible to tell if it is
a full version of WindowsXP with a service pack slipstreamed? And would it
seem that the service pack is SP1 rather than SP2?

Regards.

It doesn't sound like it has SP2 slipstreamed.
You could just slipstream SP2.

SP2 will show in control panel>add/remove programs (be sure to check the
little box that says "show updates")

if its not there .....

or look at control panel >system it should state "service pack 2" under the
"general" tab

To tell what the INSTALLED OS is:

Start Button --> RUN --> winver --> OK

The CD is not SP2 if it doesn't have the *.SP2 file in the root.
You can slipstream it to be SP2 and you can update your machine to SP2.

Thank you for the comments, and yes, SP2 is mentioned where you specified,
but I believe as a result of SP2 being applied to the system from a
dedicated SP2 CD.
I want to know if SP2 is on the Widows CD

Thank you for the information. In this instance I wanted to know only about
what is on the CD, not about what is on the computer. (The computer has had
SP2 installed from a Microsoft SP2 CD.)
From the kind replies I have had I take it there is no simple answer, like
looking for specific named files. I thought if ever I had to reinstall
Windows following a software disaster, it would be useful to know just what
sort of a WindowsXP installation disk I had, and that is what I was trying
to determine.

Regards.

It wouold appear that you answered Shenan's message, quoted above, without
reading it. He told you what file to look for.

Aah, I see now. I made a mistake there. Thank you for your patience, and I
send my apologies. I read the *.SP2 part, wrongly, as what would be
installed onto the computer, although it clearly says that is what is on the
CD.

Additionally, I have now found the release date for SP2 to be August 2004.
As I bought the equipment as I said in December 2003, the supplier would
seem to be wrong in claiming SP2 is slipstreamed. And there is no *.SP2 file
on the CD.

Thank you for your help.

Anode.

You're welcome, but it was Shenan who knew the answer, not me. He's the one
who really deserves your thanks.

By the way, if if you want a slipstreamed CD, it's easy enough to make one
yourself. See http://forum.aumha.org/viewtopic.php?t=7262
