Has anyone installed HP LaserJet 3380 on Vista?

Hi all. I am trying to install my HP LaserJet 3380 on Vista Ultimate with no
joy. Plugged in to a USB port and Vista says unknown device. Ran the HP
print software and it can't find the printer at all. When the printer was
on my server it could see the printer ok but was said the driver was the
wrong one and no way was I able to load the proper driver for it. I tried
XP drivers the whole bit but no joy. I don't have a LPT port so I can't try
that route. Seems like Vista just doesn't like my printer or me.. lol.
Been one thing after another. XP was simple to install and configure, but
Vista... well that is another story. Not bashing it, I'm realy trying to
like it. I write software for a living and have to move to this platform due
to client demands but wow, a printer? How hard can that be? So if anyone
out there has installed a 3380 I sure would appreciate some advise on how to
overcome these difficulties and get it to print.

Your printer should be fine in vista ultimate,try installing software
using the compatability mode for windows xp sp2,hope this helps

Update, as soon as I re-booted back into Vista with the printer plugged into
the USB port bingo it saw the printer, installed the proper driver and am
able to print. Still can't figure why it wouldn't see the printer when I
plugged it in when Vista was running... go figure.. oh well mayby aftrer
SP1?

Interesting since with USB printers you aren't supposed to do that, but with
my two USB printers, HP LJ2200d and PS8250, I neglected to do this when
installing VISTA in dual boot (too lazy to go round the back and unplug <g>)
and as you found it installed both fine, both work including the duplex on
the LJ22d printer ......

Vista is a different animal Hugh. Lots of suprises in store for us, some
good, some bad, lol.

We tried installation CD on Windows Vista Home Premium but it would not
install. The computer did recognize HP 3380 automatically. To scan via ADF
produced random black lines images. To scan via glass platform is OK. To
print is OK.

Since installation CD would not install even under Windows XP SP2 mode we
can not use fax function.
