Hardware installations not functioning

Every time I try to start the hardware installation
wizard, it tells me that there is a hardware installation
in progress and I must wait for it to finish before
beginning another. Problem is, there is NO hardware being
installed. It has said this for months, and I would like
to know how to finally fix it...

Do you shut down the computer or hibernate? If you are hibernating, restart
normally to let that other hardware installation finish. If no luck, can you
tell what hardware is trying to (re)install?

.I am not in hibernation, and no I can't tell what

hardware is trying to install. Any ideas??
