Ron:
I would guess it's probably too late to do so, but is there any way you
could cancel that $69.95 order for the "BIOS upgrade"? In all candor, I
really think your best bet at this point is to bring your computer in to a
local computer repair shop. Assuming there are no defective hardware
implications, I'm reasonably certain that they could return your computer to
a functional state at a reasonable cost. At least they could give you an
estimate of charges and you could then make a decision as to whether you
want to go that route.

There should be three connections on an IDE cable.. one end plugs into the
board, the other end plugs into the master drive, and the one in the middle
plugs into the slave.. you should have a cable like this on both IDE 0 and
IDE 1.. in this way, you can connect four IDE devices to your computer..

Humm, maybe I'm mis-remembering but, I seem to recall that jumpering the
only drive on the cable as slave resulting in the BIOS not allowing the
drive to boot normally. You could sometimes get it to go by leaning on
the F1 key provided it had a working copy of the operating system. But
by no means was it what I considered "normal".

Well guys, I'm taking someone's advice, don't remember who. I just
called a computer repair shop and someone is on the way. I'll let the
pro's handle it. There goes my money for the DVD burner though. I'll
let you know what happens. Thanks to all.

Didn't the ATA card come with a ribbon cable?
Did it have an install disk or CD?

Your current configuration is:
Pri master HD (0) 60 gig
Sec Master HD (1) 160 gig
NO CD or DVD?

60 gig shows up in BIOS
160 gig does NOT show in BIOS

Can boot to 60 gig HD?
Windows sees 160 gig HD in My computer/explorer?
You can open folders, and files, etc.?

Can you post your boot.ini from 60 gig and from 160 gig.
They both should have one!!!
They are hidden files but you can see by:
Start>Run>C:\boot.ini
Start>Run>D:\boot.ini
Should be drive letters, if connected as described earlier.
My computer/Explorer should show drive letters.

Please post this information!!

Thank you!!

You can boot to 60

Your motherboard OEM's web site should have the BIOS update or at least the
last latest update for the board for free.. Did you ever update the chipset
drivers when you first built the system or remember to reinstall them if you
ever later reinstalled XP..? What is the make and model # of the motherboard?
