i was told xp would not split my hard drive into sections
like 98 is that true?

You can have a single large disk with Windows XP. Here is a link to

Just as with Windows 98, you can have your drive partitioned as a
single drive or into several partitions. The choice was yours in
Windows 98 and it's still yours in Windows XP.
