computer keeps scanning hard drive when starting up.
saying that it is corrupt. what should i do.

run chkdsk c :/r from the RUN box.
If that doesn't solve it, download the HD manufacturers
diagnostic program. All the brands have them now.
Maxtor, Hitachi/IBM, WD, Seagate, etc,etc...
