When i turn on my laptop it gives me the options:

Safe mode
Safe mode with networking
Safe mode with command prompt

Last known good configuration

Start windows normally

No matter what i press the same error screen comes up:

A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage
to your computer

If this is the first time you've seen this stop error screen restart your
computer. if this screen appears again, follow these steps:

Check for viruses on your computer. Remove any newly installed hard drives
or hard drive controllers. check your hard drive to make sure it is properly
configured and terminated. Run CHKDSK /F to check for hard drive corruption,
and then restart your computer.

Technical information:

*** STOP: 0x0000007B (0xF7963528,0xC0000034,0x00000000,0x00000000)

My problem is i can't follow any of the advice because my laptop won't turn
on to do a virus scan and i don't know very much about hard drives and how to
configure them seeing as i recently bought the laptop. What should i do??

Boot to the Recovery Console and run the following commands:

chkdsk /r

fixboot

Be warned that there is *always* a risk of data loss when chkdsk is run.
