hard drive

In windows 2000 the hard disk is running all the time!
II am getting a lot of popup windows when I'm not even in IE.
Can anyone help me?

Virus? Worm?

My co-worker's computer sometimes starts thrashing the harddrive. We just
reboot it and it is fine for a while.

My brain is fried from work at the moment so I cannot think of what else to
say. Sorry.

Does your friend have the free version of Kazaar on the PC? My nephew's PC
threw out pop-ups like confetti in spite of having a killer installed which
worked fine on my PC. After the virus and worm checks it might be worth
using Adaware to see if any thing is taking over.

Your problem is you do not practice safe computing.

Tell me that you have and run and AVP, have a firewall (hardware or software), have and run
Ad-aware, and have and run SpyBot S&D. You have popups because port scanners have picked up
you I.P. from the back of your computer where you have over 65,000 doors without a lock.
What would your house be like if it had that many doors and no locks. I can tell you. You'd
probably be sitting on top of your computer with a gun. The same thing happens with hackers
as does with burglars.

You can turn off your Messenger Service, but that's like putting a Band-Aid on snake bite.
