Hard drive not recognized

Jeff

I installed an 80GB Western Digital hard drive as a slave
drive. My bios recognizes it but Windows doesn't. It
doesn't show up in My Computer or Disk Management. I
went to Disk Management and clicked rescan disks but it
still won't show up. I have Windows XP with SP1. How do
I get it to work?

Did you format the drive? If not, use utility comes with the drive to format
it first.

Regardless, the drive should show in Disk Management under XP, normally you
should be able to format it in there. Though I don't have a clue why XP
would not detect the drive when the BIOS does.

Is the drive detected in the Device Manager, how about the controller the
drive is connected to?

Regards, Wichetael.

Thanks for your help guys it works now. I went into
Device Manager and double clicked Primary IDE channel
under IDE controllers. I clicked advanced settings and
changed device 1 from none to auto detection and it works
now.
