Hard Drive enumeration

I just installed Win 2000 on a new WD 40 gig drive. After
that was completed I installed a second WD 40 gig drive.
Instead of this action moving the CD Drive to the E drive
position, the CD stayed at D and the second drive
installed as E. So I now have a C drive and a E drive.

The CMOS shows the two hard drives installed as Primary
IDE Master and Slave respectively. The CD Drive installed
as the Secondary IDE Master.

Is there a Microsoft document that deals with this or is
there someone who knows how to fix this?

Thanks

Fix what?

I'm sorry! By fixing, I meant changing the position in
Explorer of hard drive 2 to D (it's now E), and the CD
drive to E (it's now D)

You can reassign drive letters in Disk Management. Right click on My
Computer and choose Manage and then select Disk Management. Assign the
CDRom a drive letter of F. Then assign hard drive a letter of D. I would
leave the CDRom at F or even later in case you add more drives.
