Hi

I have just rebuilt a Win2k PC for the nth time for the same reason, The
hard disk light does not go off causing slow performance.
The PC has 392Mb RAM.
I have just rebuilt it again. I installed Win2kSP4 and then proceeded with
the rest of the security updates via Windows update.

The problem seemed to really kick in after the 2nd lot of updates once the
IE6 exclusive update had been applied.
At the moment the machine is a tribute to MS it sits with NO installed
software burning out the hard disk. Oops Outlook Express is installed.

Any help much appreciated.

Many thanks

Mike

Configure Task Manager to show "I/O Read Bytes" and ":I/O Write Bytes" so
you can see which process is hammering the hard disk. This should give you a
better clue as to how to proceed.
