Thanks for the reply Bob1, do I assume then that this means that there is no
problem just the light is faulty?

Since the light is on regardless of any drive activity or not, the light
is receiving power, so the light control circuit on the motherboard must
be faulty (shorted). Other motherboard issues may eventually arise but
the testing you did, indicates the problem is not with the hard drive.
