Hangs on startup

Hi
I have a laptop with windows xp home that is now hanging on the blue
screen(not bsod) with the windows xp logo, just before it would normally
either ask you to log on, or go into windows. I have had this problem
before with various different machines (cant remember if they were all home
edition) and usually just reinstall, but seeing as this is a fairly common
occurance, I was wondering if anyone knows if I can resolve the issue
without reinstalling or doing a recovery.

mine is doing the same thing though it hangs indefinatly after login i need a
soluion because my laptop has no drives
 
The exact same thing is happening to mine. I can't even get the laptop to
read the Windows XP cd on startup. Let me know if you can figure anything
out.
