Hangs on startup, but not if in a folder

When I start internet explorer, it hangs immediately
unless i wait for about 30 secs - 1.5 minutes, then its
ok, and this will happen to every pop up also

BUT if I am viewing a folder from My Computer, and I type
in a web address, it will browse to that address no
proble, but if a pop up comes, it will hang for some time
and come back...

It's really annoying...

I am under Windows XP, using IE6, I'm on a cable
connection through a network adapter.

PLEASE any help would be good!

P.S. if i attempt to update the IE6 with ie6setup.exe, I
get a bunch of errors and will not let me update!

First eliminate any scumware.

Note that AdAware and SpyBot S & D will each catch some things the other
won't. Also, each need to be updated before every use, even when just
downloaded. There's also a lot more to do than just those two programs.

If trying everything at that site does not fix the problem please post back
in the same thread.

I am having the the same problem and I have cleaned my
system of spyware. I used Spybot and Ad-Aware.

This is only the first IE session then it seems to run
fine. Anythoughts?
