Hanging up on boot

Our computer (Compact Presario) had some spyware, which Nortons would not
take out, so I downloaded AVG, but when the PC went to restart, we getting it
hanging up at the Windows message "Windows is atarting up..".
Is there anything I can do to get it to get by this? I would like to run the
AVG to hopefully get rid of the spyware (Marketplace)

Attempting to run multiple ant virus apps will cause conflicts
Niether Norton or AVG will detect much spyware for that you need specific
apps eg Adaware, SpyBot, Windows Defender to name a few, and you would need
to run them all

Safe Mode> Boot in last Good

For Spyware try Spybot Search and Destroy and Adaware. Get the free
versions. Do a google search for them.

As the computer is starting keep tapping F8 until you get a menu. Choose
Safe Mode.
