Hanging system

Anyone have any ideas about this problem. I have a dial-up internet
connection temporarily until broadband gets installed and Windows XP.
However 70% of the time when I log on, after a few minutes of browsing my
system hangs. Most of the time this happens when I disconnect from the
internet. If I leave it hung for about 10 minutes it finds it feet again but
its a pain in the butt. Any ideas, I have all the latest drivers

Try control panel,internet connections,L.click on the icon,then in new
sub menu on left,select,repair this connection.
