Hang up at loading personal settings.

Please help me asap!!!!!! I recently had to use my recovery and 3 quick
restore disks. I am receiving a message that all is successful, but when I
log on it freezes up at the loading personal settings screen. I am able to
log on to safe mode and by trial and error discovered that when I go into
msconfig and uncheck plug and play I am able to log on, but unable to install
any devices. I have been messing with this for 2 weeks, compaq support keeps
saying to run the restore disks again, I have done this numerous times and it
still hangs up at the "loading personal settings" screen. If there is a
corrupted or missing drive is there a way I can download a file to correct
this? I must get my programs and printer installed and working by Wednesday,
is this something I am going to be able to fix or should I take it in for
repair?

I'm having very similiar issue. When I reboot PC and log in all that appears
is the wallpaper and user settings do not load. I've done a restore but
didn't reslove problem. I can boot system into safe mode OK. Any ideas how I
can correct with rebuilding XP?

Thanks, Jsnick
