Hang during shutdown

My XP Home (SP2) machine is now starting to hang during shutdown while some items are still in the system tray. I had hoped that problem went away with Win 98, but apparently not. It doesn't happen with every startup -- probably about half the time; but that's often enough. I have to shut it down with the power switch. Next boot, it seems OK, but it is about half likely to hang again when I try to shut it down.

Since I had recently upgraded my video driver, that was the first thing I suspected, but I went back to the previous video driver and I still get the hang.

I know there are about a million things I could try and I'm sure that a complete reinstall would fix it; but I am hoping that someone can point me in a good direction so I won't have to waste too much time. I suspect there are one or two "most likely" causes for this.

Does anyone have a good tip?

I dont know what is makes your Pc hang often but i like to use clean bootup
to troubleshooting what makes my windows hang.

1.) I will change to safe mode. If safe mode is no problem is shutdown,
meaning your hardware and windows is fine.

2.) Some software (like spam) application we cannot seen in startup. we may
go into registry to find out. You may use anti-spyware to find it out.

4 way to maintain your Computer performance.
