Halo runs crap!

I can only run Halo at 640*480 if I want a smooth game.
But as soon as more than 2 characters are on screen it
drops frame rate to under 10 fps! Yet I can run Unreal 2
at 1024*768! All Background programs are off. Do I need a
better graphics card?

System:

Intel Celron 2.2 Ghz
512 MB RAM
GeForce FX 5600 256MB / AGP X8 (But my motherboard only
supports X4)
60 GB hard drive
DirectX 9.0B

The card isn't high-end by a long shot.

Try adding '-use11' to the Halo shortcut

"D:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Halo\halo.exe" -use11

For example.

Hi Paul,

In addition, watch nVidia's website like a hawk. We're all
hoping the next version of their drivers will improve performance,
either that, or there will be a game update released to do so. :)

I've heard sometime this week for their next set of drivers. Time shall
tell, been using the 52.14s not seen anything impressive out of those. But
only using ye bog standard GF3, well until I get my Radeon. ;-)

Kinda funny reading everyone moaning about how poorly Halo performs even on
their top of the range system, when it's easily playable on mine, although I
do have to turn specular off for indoor areas, how on Earth do I manage.

Everyone's been spoiled by Quake 3 @ 300fps that's my theory. ;-)

simple fix, buy an xbox. halo runs wonderfully on it and
looks spectacular on my 32" digital tv. that and the
gforce 5600 is a notoriously poor card for gaming. spend
the $200 and get an ati radeon 9700+, that will fix most
issues, or $400 and get a gforce 5900 pro.

Hi, well it worked ok with my FX5600, I just adjusted to 800 x 600 and
turned off particles. I've now got a 9800XT and the graphics are lovely...
