Downloaded sp4 to try and resolve svchost problem only to
got another. When I tried to re-boot I get the dreaded
blue screen. The information includes the line - Address
8006543A base at 80062000, Date stamp 3e7a733a - hal.dll.

Iam using a dual processor p3. Could this be the problem?

Only if you are not using a dual-processor HAL. Boot into safe mode and
bring up the task manager. In the performance tab, if you don't have 2 CPU
Usage graphs, then you have the wrong HAL and will need to adjust your
device manager.

Will not even boot to safe mode. Am using dual boot
machine NT4 SP6. Can I fix problem from starting NT. W2K
not recognising discs even when booted using recovery
discs... argh!!

You may also want to check to see if ACPI and APM are turned on in BIOS.
Flip the switch to the opposite position to see if it goes further.
