Had a trojan - no longer have administrative rights

Really hoping someone has a solution...
I am running Windows XP Professional SP2. I am the only user of my computer
and my account was set up with administrator rights. I had a trojan which is
now cleared. But the virus changed something in my registry so that I am now
locked out of any administrator functions - both in my user account AND under
the default Administrator account, even in safe mode.

I cannot access my control panel through the start menu or through start
-Run: control.exe, cannot right click on my computer to get properties,
cannot create new user accounts, etc. I always get a message that the
operation has been canceled due to restrictions on this computer.

I already tried a system restore but that did not bring back my control
panel or administrative rights.
Any assistance would be sincerely apprectiated.

Run a /thorough/ check for hijackware, including posting your hijackthis log
to an appropriate forum.

When all else fails, HijackThis v1.99.1
(http://aumha.org/downloads/hijackthis.zip) is the preferred tool to use.
It will help you to both identify and remove any hijackware/spyware with

If the procedures look too complex - and there is no shame in admitting this
isn't your cup of tea - take the machine to a local, reputable and
independent (i.e., not BigBoxStoreUSA) computer repair shop.
