Unfortunately for you, the tyranny of this majority will keep shutting
you down everytime you show up, repeating the same stuff over and over
and over. While I definitely think you're odd, I also think banning
you from making a laughing stock of yourself is totally anal.
Normally, I just mark you read and go on with life.
But I hope you continue to post, if only to show those too lazy to
ignore you that you won't quit. Never quit. Never.

Although I generally agree that everyone should have the right to say
whatever they want, there's two problems with what Tracker is doing:

1) She's spamming, and most importantly
2) She's so wrong that she's likely to cause more damage to computers
than whatever was the problem in the first place.

She's been around for, what?, 3 years now, and she still hasn't learned
anything from any of the professionals that freely and willing share
their knowledge in these newsgroups.

What you may fail to understand is that we've ignored her in the past,
setup a private web site for people to read and help her with her
content, even provided very constructive feedback about the 5 fragments
she posted from her book, and she continues to ignore the fact that her
material is incomplete, inaccurate, can lead to some user actually
breaking their systems, and is considered SPAM in most groups that she
posts. It's also a violation, in clear terms, of her web hosting
companies TOS.

If she took part in conversations, provided any form of help, or
accepted help from people, it would be a different story.

2) She's so wrong that she's likely to cause more damage to
computers than whatever was the problem in the first place.

This is a not the reason her pages are getting canceled. That
would be censorship.

GeoCities has most likely taken down her pages because she's
selling a product, and that's against their TOS. Granted, no
one is going to *buy* that product, but that's not what
GeoCities looks at. All they see is her e-mail address on the
page and her telling folks to e-mail her about purchasing her
<snicker> 11-thousand-page "book". (Of firewall logs, lol.)

I don't know why any of you care about her li'l page and
"book". Why do you bother to get it canceled, over and over? Is
this some personal vendetta? Or does this go back to all that
ferret crap? ;-) (Btw, I hate ferrets. Li'l weasels.)

And she's not spamming usenet, either. She's posting on-topic
(albeit on-topic CRAP) to these groups. ;-)

Lots of the real experts here post their website's URL. Some
are even av vendors. Is that any reason to contact their ISPs
to try to get their accounts canceled? I think not. As long as
the product they're selling or hyping is related to this group,
then it's not off-topic. And as much as I hate those fanboi
"AVG update" posts, they're not off-topic, either. (Can you say
"filter"?)

But back to folks "'damaging their computers'...

You take a chance when you surf the web. There's good info and
bad info out there. Use your brain when trying to figure out
what's what.

IMHO, if someone follows Tracker's advice and their computer
gets screwed, it's their own fault. If you're not going to get
your info from legitimate and reputable sources, then you're an
idiot and deserve what you get.

Actually, posting "sales" messages, or other types of crap is in
violation of most group charters not to mention most ISP's TOS. A link
to a site in a sig line is not a problem for most people, but Deb has
gone way off the deep end for many years. As an IT professional in the
security arena myself, I can honestly say that nothing that comes from
her is worth putting up with. I personally have tried to help her, even
setup a site for her to post and get feedback from, even filtered the
unkind words from some before I sent it to her, and she didn't learn a
thing from any of us.

If you expect these groups to sit back and continually watch her violate
the group charters, push out bad information, and violate the ISP's TOS
without saying anything then you should read up on Deb and then post
your feelings.

Don't tell us to filter, she changes her posting address, her subject
lines, etc... You can't filter an ever changing header. If you look,
you'll see that she posted to 5 groups, selling anything in many of
those groups is a violation and depending on how many times it's done
the ISP's are notified.

No one is picking on Deb (Tracker) she starts the problem on her own. If
she were to just enter into conversations and not spam I suspect that
she would not get the responses she does, but she doesn't learn.

True. But that is the reason why people here (comp.security.firewalls)
respond when she posts. That is why we care what she posts.

Also, Geocities are non-governmental for-profit organization. They are
free to "censor" anyone and anything they please.

I know who she is. I've been an acv regular for almost four
years. I also read that ferret owner's devotion page to her.
;-)

Please don't assume that because I have a different
opinion than you that I haven't done my "research" before
posting.

Laura, sorry I didn't see your sig when I posted. But, my opinion of her
violation of the various charters and the clear violations of the web
hosts TOS is more than enough to get her kicked.

Her violations of group charters and hosting service terms of service
don't require any public comment; just report the abuse and let the
ISPs and hosting services terminate her accounts.

As you've seen, attempts to convince her to change her ways are futile
and just feed these big crossposted threads she starts. Flaming her
has the same effect. I'd suggest putting up a concise webpage
specifically to counter her bad information and posting a pointer to it
occasionally, only in the group in which you're active.

(To stop the crossposting, I've set FollowUp-To myself, but I really
/don't/ want e-mail about this. If someone wants to reply, please just
do so in whatever group you read -- I probably won't see it, but I
don't think I had anything else to say anyway.)

Agree, I do it all the time.

Does not have to be a web page. Post it to Usenet and provide
something like

Please try the following:
http://groups.google.com/advanced_group_search
xxxxxxxx in the Message ID box.
where xxxxxx is the message id of the article you wish the un-informed
to read.

I do that, only when it's a clear violation of a TOS/Charter. I took
exception to your "censor" comment, it's not censoring her, it's
removing content that is in violation of a charter / TOS. If she posts
on-topic, within charter, and does not provide false / misleading
material, no one would have a problem with her posting.

I don't really flame anyone, at least I try hard to not do it, I will
comment on a person's character when they step way out of line, and then
only if I'm in a bad mood.

The web page idea is not worth the effort - it's easier and quicker to
just notify her providers and then post a "Abuse report filed with
(provider name here) message.

=?ISO-8859-1?Q?=BBQ=AB?=

took exception to your "censor" comment,

I didn't make any comment about censoring her. I never used or misused
the word "censor". I have no problem with people getting her TOSed; I
thought this was clear in my quote above.

I've got no problem with all that, as long as the comments on her
character and the abuse report notifications aren't crossposted. Quite
often they /are/ crossposted (if not by you, by others), and it's that
crossposting that I'd like to see stop.

Since there's about as much chance of me stopping people from
crossposting as there is of you convincing Debbie to stop posting bad
info, and since it makes me cringe a bit every time I crosspost myself,
it's EOT for me.

Guess one of you must work for Geocities because it's not easy to have
a Website shut down within a few hours of it being active. Give this
Website a shot and let's see how long this one stays up? Want to make
a wager on how many weeks this babe is active?
