May I remind you that you can buy the following parts for around two grand:

EVGA Nvidia 680I SLI Socket 775 DDR2 GB Lan SATA II Raid 7.1Channel Audio Firewire Motherboard - £210.00
Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 2 x 2.4Ghz 4Mb Cache 1066 FSB Dual Core Processor - £234.00
Zalman CNPS7700-CU Ultra-Quiet CPU Cooler (775,754, 939, 940) - £27.00
2 x BFG GeForce 8800GTS 640MB HDCP Enabled Dual DVI PCI Express (500MHz Core Clock) (1600MHz Memory Clock) (1200MHz Shader Clock) in SLI mode - £728.00
2 x Western Digital Raptor 150Gb 16Mb Cache Hard Disk Drive Serial ATA <4.5ms 10,000rpm - OEM in RAID 0 - £316.00
Pioneer DVD Burner - £28.00
Corsair XMS6400 2GB DDR2 (2x1GB) 800Mhz Non-ECC - £194.00
Antec Nine Hundred Ultimate Gamer Case - £72.00
ENERMAX Liberty 620 Watt Modular Power Supply - £108.00
Windows XP Pro - £95.00

Total: £2012.00

If you already have Windows deduct £95.00

If you want Quad core CPU add about £470.00.

Then find a local computer shop who should agree to put it together for you for £100.00 to £150.00

If you're spending that kind of cash then only the best will do :)

Alienware, all those others, frickin' rip-off.

ok personaly i think that pc specialist machine destroys alienware's on specs.
but that alienware maschine looks great. and have been told they look after there customers and they build there machines to last,, not sure how much truth there is in that,, also been looking up at online forums have seen tons of complaints about pcspecialists.. like machine coming with diff parts in it and them havin trouble getting them out to sort it within a year.
thats why i was thinking of buying all the parts from overclockers.com think it was floppy or michael told me off that site.
and taking it to a local pc shop to build it for me or would that be even more risky?
ive bought 2 pc's from pc worl in the last 3 years both cost over 1k both have been ****,, like rubbish motherboards and totely unupgradable. though i know a little about the parts going in the machine now. ((thanks for the help guys))though im sure puzzled on what to do..
if i waited till january or febuary will i get a faster comp at same price will pay like 2.100 tops.

but then in january there will be slightly faster components out there :). its all about making a compromise. if your willing to wait til january time to buy the computer then fine, if you buy now then your computer is still going to last a long old time.

Whatever you do, don't make a final decision before asking for at least a few views from the guys here.

As for a local shop building you a machine, visit a few (see Yellow Pages) and sound 'em out.

Some may be unwilling to do it as they'll want to sell you the parts as well. You never know, take a list of parts along and the local shop may supply and build the thing for you with a year's warranty for a decent price. Much better option than relying on a little known online supplier.

It's one thing to find a good parts supplier, quite another to find a decent supplier of ready made machines.

Alienware do make good machines (so I hear) but they are really overpriced. You pay a premium for a flashy case.

yes very true floppy :).

I spose the good thing about alienware is the reliabilty... but ulsterbrit did say money wasnt too much of an issue, so it was an option. but then again i think you could spend your money better elsewhere :D

I was searchin' round suppliers, was thinking of getting a sound card actually, when I came across this:

Fusion

Looks like a good system to me for the money (£2K) and I can recommend Chillblast as a supplier, they be second only to Kustom PC's in my book.

AlienWare is owned by Dell now, and having experienced (2nd hand), A/W "support" I might think twice about using them, unless of course for a £2000 machine they offer a much higher level of hand holding.

Have a look at some of those posts, those couple of people are wrong :).

we already have great games such as half life 2, Oblivion, Cod2... much more to list.

and in the near(ish) future will be games like Crysis, Stalker, Left 4 dead (from the makers of counter strike), Test drive unlimited, Battlestations Midway, Medal of Honour Airbourne.... phew... the list goes on. :)

Call of Duty 3 is NOT coming out on PC, at least not for the forseeable future.

To quote, "There are no plans to release Call of Duty 3 on the pc at present."
