Group Policy Not Working

Tom

I'm trying to add a group policy to a new OU.

I added the policy to the new OU and configured it.
I added a test user to that OU but when I log in as that
user, none of the policies take effect.

Any ideas?

What OS is the user using?

Win Pro sp4
What are the policy settings?

I had set a bunch of policy settings but once they weren't
working I only had one: "hide all desktop icons" for
testing purposes
Is DNS properly configured?

DNS is configured and seems to be running fine.
Can you run RSOP on the client, or GPRESULT?

GPRESULT works and says that the PC is getting group
policies from "default domain controller"
Are Group Policies working everywhere else on the domain?

I thought they were but upon further inspection I noticed
that there are no domain policies set.
I set a policy for testing purposes: "remove help from
start menu" and it's not working as well

Does the policy include user settings ?
Is the policy blocked on the OU ?.

This could be a problem with DNS. You may need to open a support case. But
first confirm that there is a DNS server for your domain that is local to
your domain. I.e. not pointing to an external DNS address. Second confirm
that all of your clients are using that address for thier DNS settings. GPOs
use DNS to propogate. Are there any 1704 events in the application log?

We have 2 DNS servers set up locally.
and all the clients point to these 2 servers
I guess my only option is to call microsoft and open a case

thanks for the help!

how long are you waiting for the policies to take effect?

how long do you have the update set in GP?

default is 90 minutes so it can take a while
