When checking a folder's properties, what does a solid
green box in the checkbox mean?

I found this when checking for read-only status.

It means indeterminate (it's a greyed out tick on classic style). Explorer won't tell you, nor allow you to change the read only attribute on a folder. Read Only has always been meaningless on folders. It only applies to files.
