Grayscale printing powerpoint 2002 (XP)

When I select print PPT automaticly detects the type of printer as if it is color or grayscale. Power point 2000 used to default to color and allowed you to select grayscale if wanted. I need to be able to have it default to color no mater what type of printer is selected. Or know where the property is in the printer settings that powerpoint reads to detirmine that it is a blk & white or color printer. If anyone could help that would be great. We are using a 3rd party software and it assumes the default. I do not want to have to downgrade all my machines to PPT2000 when 2002 works great except that it defaults to grayscale when printing.

Hope someone can help

Most printer drivers don't give you access to this.
With PS printers, it might be possible to create a customized PPD that forces the issue,
but that's a bit over the top.

Have you contacted the third-party software developer about this? It should be possible
for them to force color printing from PowerPoint.

[TOP ISSUE - Are you having difficulty opening presentations in PPT 2003
that you just created in PPT 2003? -
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=329820]

Hello,

PowerPoint does not have the specific capability that you are looking for.
Some default print settings can be customized on a per-presentation basis
(Tools -> Options, Print tab), but there is no way to specify custom
default print settings for new presentations.

1) Open presentation you want to control printing defaults for
2) Tools -> Options
3) Switch to "Print" tab
4) Check "Use the following print settings" for the "Default print settings
for THIS document", and
5) Chose "Color" from "Color/grayscale" drop-down menu, then
6) Click OK, and
7) Save presentation.

If you (or anyone else reading this message) think that PowerPoint should
provide a way of customizing the default print options (without having to
resort to VBA or add-ins to control the printing), don't forget to send
your feedback to Microsoft at:

http://register.microsoft.com/mswish/suggestion.asp

It's VERY important that, for EACH wish, you describe in detail, WHY it is
important TO YOU that your product suggestion be implemented. A good wish
submssion includes WHAT scenario, work-flow, or end-result is blocked by
not having a specific feature, HOW MUCH time and effort ($$$) is spent
working around a specific limitation of the current product, etc. Remember
that Microsoft receives THOUSANDS of product suggestions every day and we
read each one but, in any given product development cycle, there are ONLY
sufficient resources to address the ones that are MOST IMPORTANT to our
customers so take the extra time to state your case as CLEARLY and
COMPLETELY as possible so that we can FEEL YOUR PAIN.

IMPORTANT: Each submission should be a single suggestion (not a list of
suggestions).

I know how to manully do this with each document. Howerver the automated program (our 3rd party) does not have the ability to change printer settings at the launch of the application. That is why PPT2000 worked great as it defaulted to color for all printers. Is there a way to run a macro of somesort when PPT launches to force it to color. Any other ideas would be great. I just hate having to downgrade a bunch of my machines because of this color issue.

thanks

That capability could be added by the developer, though, and they'd probably want to be
made aware that there's an issue over this.

There's probably some code in the app that sets print options in any case; they'd
probably have to do no more than add this prior to invoking the printout:

With ActivePresentation.PrintOptions
.PrintColorType = ppPrintColor
End With

a way to run a macro of somesort when PPT launches to force it to color. Any other ideas
would be great. I just hate having to downgrade a bunch of my machines because of this
