Tony

Hi hope you can help, so here goes

System
P4 2.66
512 DDR ram
256mb graphics card (inno3d)
120gb HD
pioneer DVD writer
sony DVD rom
Mat a DVD
WinXP
Intel 845PE MAX Series mother board
using on board sound.

playing game (Ghost Recon)other night and pc froze, every
time i went onto game it did the same, so rang a mate
and cos ive recently installed a DVD writer and installed
and uninstalled different programs for it, he said a
might have corrupted a DLL link, so he suggested a
reinstall. so i did, but still same problem,
ive done a complete format of C: (60gb on 120gb
partition), installed fresh chipset drivers for
motherboard, Did a win update, bios update
fresh directx, everything......and ive even swapped
graphic card with another PC and it works fine on the and
other, and other card which is a 64mb ATI DDR Radeon and
that card works fine with mine.....
It only fails during high intense graphical use it feezes
pc totally, but if you go in game and set all settings
to "low" it works ok, untill you start to turn settings
up a bit and it freezes. Even when you first boot up
windows and the default screen with the sky and the green
grass.....well the sky on that looks a bit choppy to me.
Well i hope someone will be able to help...thx

Lot of drives listed, each takes power. Each makes heat.
Intense graphics makes heat.

How big is your power supply and does it have 25% excess
capacity. If you use a power supply at 100%, just as if you
use a CPU at 100% it gets hotter.

Intel has firmware that steps the system down if it gets too
hot.

I suspect you have an inadequate PSU and you may have a heat
problem due to dirt/dust and perhaps the over-worked PSU.

Hi;
Aggree to aggree.
Borderline PSU and Heat BuildUp.
246MBs vs 64 on the 2nd card is the "telltale".
