Hi there
Can anyone help
I've recently been having problems on games that the graphics suddenly stop
and freeze but the game continues in the background this is very annoying and
the only way to cure it is to put my comp to sleep and then wake it up
again, this then unfreezes it and i continue till it does it again. Also it
somtimes restart my comp and a microsoft error appears say the display driver
was to blame and a message saying
(szAppName:Driver,Display szAppver: 10DE028A100000000
szModName:nv4_disp.dll szModver :6.14.10.7801 offset E8BD06EA)
Can any one tell me what this it or how to fix it.

I've tryed different drivers and updateing game patchs also direct x says
everything is running fine.I'm running windows xp home sp1 with a nvidea
gforce4 ti 4800 graphics card.

Please Help its driving me mad!!!!!

Hi there.
I have a similar issue, and I haven't fixed yet either. However, I think
the problem you might be having is the video card overheating. Most
chipsets have thermal protection in case of overheating, and it can either
slow down the clock frequency or just kill the clock to let the chip cool
down.
My advise is that, if the card is external and you have some experience on
what I will tell you, open your PC, take the card out, and carefully remove
the heatsink of the video card (I don't know if you will be able to do it in
your card though, some are really trick to disassemble). Then, clean the
thermal conducting grease, and put some new on it (which you previously
bought from a PC store, of course), and reassemble everything back again.

If you are not skilled to do this, then take the card to any repair shop.
Another thing you could do instead is to buy an add-on card with fans on it
(look for them in the PC store again) and put it next to your video card.
This will help to cool it down.

Finally, you might try running your PC with the case open, and even with an
external fan blowing into it. If this fixes the problem, then definitively
you have an overheating problem.

I agree, that is a plan I've used. Be prepared for spending time looking for
a replacement fan if there's a fan on it.

If the game is Valve's Half Life I have found the latest NVIDIA driver is
NOT the best for my card. It works fine under XP with the new "Source" games
but doesn't do the graphics in the game justice, however under W2003 where I
made the mistake of accepting the new driver when the game asked for it the
"Source" games no will not run at all. (Same machine - dual boot).

Also if it's a board like mine (Asus) you may need chipset drivers for the
AGP slot. Trouble is Asus data is a bit - ermm - well vague I guess is
polite.

Do not use an air line to blow out fans unless you hold the blades still...
the speed and current generated will cause damage, this is not a suggestion
it is a fact :) Vacuum cleaners with plastic pipes and fittings generate
static. Ground yourself to the case, the board to you (by holding it with
the backplate) and keep the other hand close to the end of the vacuum
pipe... Doesn;t matter if you reach 4 million volts as long as you, the case
and the board all do it together :)

Cheers guys great advice.didnt think about it overheating.I've taken the side
off and had an external dc fan already in my comp so i've moved it up under
the card
