Hi can you please help
This is a edited copy of my request for help to GIGABYTE support and to
Club3D support on the there web site's

I posted it hear as I am going nuts trying to sort this out so the more
people that see this post the better chance I have off fixing it my
problem.

I don't know if this is a graphics card or motherboard problem but
would be grateful if you could think off a possible solution.

I have 3 hard drives
2 on IDE3
1 on IDE2

And 1 DVD and 1 DVDR drives
The 2 DVD drives are on IDE1

I have installed the Club 3D Radeon X800RX on a newly built system
Mother board is a GIGABYTE Intel 915P GA-8I915P Duo REV 2.0
CPU: P4 3.04

I am using a dual monitor setup.

I am having BIG problems with this card I cannot get it to work
properly at all and I don't know if it is motherboard related.

The problem is that everything on the desktop displays very slowly.
Movie files and DVD's drops frames and very very jumpy and slow that
it's unwatchable also during trying to play movie files in windows
media player, quick time or Realone player the mouse is very stuttery
when moving it across the desktop also
Programs display very slowly on the desktop also.

I have disabled hardware video acceleration and turned off write
combining in windows XP desktop advanced settings.
I get warnings like ( This application requires direct draw
acceleration )
And I can now play movie files almost without the slow and jumpy video
The desktop is not as stuttering or ass slow as before but still not
acceptable.

I have only installed one game to test the card.
With driver 6.14.10.6553 installed from the supplied CD
The game was quake 4 and it looks to be running fine a lot better that
my previous card (ATI RADEON 9000)
But as soon as I disabled hardware video acceleration the game will not
loads.

I get the following warning that only appears onscreen just as the pc
is shutting down (the last 3 or 4 seconds).

This is a copy of the popup warning from Windows XP event viewer.
In event viewer I have the same warning each time I shut down windows

be "read".
================

Things that I have tried and things that wear suggested to me to try.

1. I have reinstalled windows XP Home edition with no luck.
2. I have installed a copy of windows XP media addition on a different
drive with no luck.
3. The bios is fully updated now with no improvement to my problem.
4. I tried installing updated drivers from ATI on both fresh installs
After the update file was installed Windows booted up very very slowly
and both monitors are flashing on and of every 1 or 2 seconds with no
luck I rebooted in to safe mode and uninstalled the drivers.
5. I have updated directx from Microsoft's web site.
6. I have also downloaded the full Directx 9.0c file and tried that
with no luck.
7. I have also downloaded all the windows updates from Microsoft's
web site.

=================
As I now know that I can change the hardware acceleration in windows XP
I reinstalled the below driver to test if turning off the hardware
acceleration.

Catalyst Control Center Package
File name: 6-3_xp-2k_dd_ccc_wdm_enu_30895.exe
That updated my video driver to 6.14.10.6601

After the above file was installed Windows booted up very very slowly
and both monitors are flashing on and off every 1 or 2 seconds (the
monitors are not flashing on and off at the same time.)

In between flashes I managed to open the desktop display properties and
change the hardware acceleration to DISABLE (all but the basic
acceleration) the monitors then stop flashing
Write combining was already off
But I still have the same problems as above.

================

Do you know of a diagnostic program that I could install to test the
operation of the motherboard or can you recommend a program that I can
use to test the operation off the motherboard ?.

I have contacted the card manufacturer but am still waiting a response.

Please help?
Thanks
David

I'd be looking at this first. Your power supply may not have enough power.

you loaded the motherboard chipset and gart driver ? you must load
the gart driver, and the other post was correct, what power supply is
that ? that -12 line looks b a d

Hi thanks for the help

I have measured the power across black and yellow using a multimeter
that should be +12V but I am getting around 11.62V

As for the gart driver what is this you have lost me?

It was suggested that I might be a memory fault
I have 2 512 DDR2 memory stick
I removed them and installed 1 512 DDR with no change to my problem

Also it has been suggested on another board that I change the second
Level DataCache but am unsure if this would help ?

well to be honest I am not 100% sure PCI-e uses that driver, but AGP
has always needed a GART driver in addition to the video card driver, in
addition to Direct X 9. Some of the older chipsets you had to enable USB
for all that to work, but that was a long time ago. I would just load
the chipset drivers and any other driver on the motherboard cd that
remotely looks like support for video. But that is a fairly common
problem and happened to me last week when I switch video cards, even
though the GART driver had been loaded before, I had to reload it after
the card switch. Glad to hear the power supply is okay. That cpu is a
fast one, make sure the temps look good, like less than 50C at idle.

Hi all

Looks like I might have fixed the problem just installed a new
Tagan TG480-U15 (480 W) power supply
All looks to be running normally full hardware acceleration and no
monitor or other problems so fare.

Thanks again
All the best
David
