Driver Problems

I recently done a pcpitstop full system scan, and it detected some problems
with my driver. So i saw a link called http://driveragent.com/ and took the
test. There are 14 things wrong with my drivers. Here is a list of drivers
which have shown up:

RADEON X300 Series Secondary
RADEON X300 Series
Intel(R) 82801FB/FBM Ultra ATA Storage Congrollers-266F
Intel(R) 82801FR SATA AHCI Controller
Standard 101/102=key or Microsoft Natural PS/2 keyboard
Speedtouch 330 ADSL Modem
Plug and Play Monitor
SoundMAX Integrated Digitial Audio
Intel(R) 537EP V9x DF PCI Modem
Intel(R) 82801FB/FBM USB2 Enchanced Host Controller - 265C
Intel(R) 82801FB/FBM USB Universal Host Controller - 265B
Intel(R) 82801FB/FBM USB Universal Host Controller - 265A
Intel(R) 82801FB/FBM USB Universal Host Controller - 2659
Intel(R) 82801FB/FBM USB Universal Host Controller - 2658

Is there a way to fix the listed drivers? =\

Go to Device Manager in Control Panel.. are there any devices with an
warning to the side?.. if not, then your drivers are ok for the purpose..

If you are not getting error messages in normal operation, ignore what
DriverAgent says and save your money.. personally, I wouldn't use a service
like that even if I did have problems..

I would not rely on that scan. It listed 12 on my
computer. It's almost certainly giving out false information.

Are you getting any Reports in Event Viewer?

Please check Event Viewer for Warning / Error Reports in the System and
Application logs for when the error occurs and post copies.

You can access Event Viewer by selecting Start, Administrative Tools, and
Event Viewer. When researching the meaning of the error, information
regarding Event ID, Source and Description are important.

HOW TO: View and Manage Event Logs in Event Viewer in Windows XP
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;308427&sd=tech

Part of the Description of the error will include a link, which you should
double click for further information. You can copy using copy and paste.
Often the link will, however, say there is no further information.
http://go.microsoft.com/fw.link/events.asp
(Please note the hyperlink above is for illustration purposes only)

A tip for posting copies of Error Reports! Run Event Viewer and double click
on the error you want to copy. In the window, which appears is a button
resembling two pages. Double click the button and close Event Viewer. Now
start your message (email) and do a paste into the body of the message. This
will paste the info from the Event Viewer Error Report complete with links
into the message. Make sure this is the first paste after exiting from Event
Viewer.

Are there any yellow question marks in Device Manager? Right click on
the My Computer icon on your Desktop and select Properties. Hardware,
Device Manager. If yes what is the Device Error code?

Try Start, Run, type "sigverif.exe" without quotes and hit OK. What drivers
are listed as unsigned? Disregard those which are not checked.

Hope this helps.

What did it say was the problem with the drivers? It is likely that it was
reporting that the drivers were not signed. Many manufacturer's do not get
their drivers signed by Microsoft for a variety of reasons. If this is
problem it flagged and you are not experiencing any problems I would ignore
it.

Click on performance and maintenance - then click system - then click the
hardware tab - then click the device manager button.

Ok ive found the bit. I got the list of drivers with the - beside them, ive
check each one and theres is no 'Error' or any kind of message beside it. It
seems fine. But when i run pc pit stop it still comes up witht the yellow
flag on 'Windows' bit.

I tried the Driver Agent Scan to see what it would make of my system.

It said that 50% of my drivers were bad and put crosses against 12
of 24 items. These included my keyboard, mouse, monitor, Epson
R300 Photo Printer, IDE ATA/ ATAPI controllers and USB controllers.
So far as I am aware these are all signed drivers and working fine.

It also failed my HP LaserJet 1200 printer, which works fine but the
drivers may be unsigned.

Using sigverif shows I have 10 unsigned drivers. Four are for Winfax
Pro ( not mentioned by Driver Agent ), four are HP drivers and two
relate to an uinidentified
device.

So far as I can see Drivers Agent is misidentifying problem drivers and
is best ignored.

Thanks for the heads up. I wouldn't rely on any web scan to diagnose driver
problems. I'd be afraid to even download and run any activex or java that
tried to diagnose driver problems.

Ah thats the problem :( i play a game called runescape, and it runs on java
and i cant access it. And because it comes up in a error it slows the
computer down alot which is kinda annoying.

Howaout they fix verifier.exe broken in XP and used to be the best way to find a driver that stepped all over the OS.
