Can someone help me please? I need to know how to install
a new graphics card adapter to work with my CTX monitor. I
NEED 256 colors, and I've only got 16. Thank you!

Thanks, Rick...and pardon my stupidity, but WHERE do I
find this driver? Thanks again!

The setup of the CTX monitor is easy enough. CTX Monitors are normally included in the Windows disk setup and should be in one of the cabs. Go to new hardware and set it up and follow the instructions. CTX models are not all listed, but go by the size e.g. a 17 inch monitor will show as VL700 or a 15inch will show as VP500. The base frequencies will be the same, the L or P indicate the dot matrix size. This has to be done as CTX monitors don't pass information to windows as fully plug and play monitors e.g. NEC as to frequencies of operation, but this information is given to Microsoft to be included in their disks because of the popularity of their monitors.
The graphic card is another story because you have given no information on it. Is this card from another computer and you are trying to install it without the installation disks with the drivers. Is it a card where the brandname is known or the chipset running it. You will then have to go to the website of the manufacturer to get the setup program. If you do not know watch the setup screen as the computer boots as this gives the info as whose card it is and what model. If it is a very early card e.g.ISA video with half meg of ram onboard going above 16 colors is impossible except at extremely low resolutions. If ISA slots are all you have picking up a one meg card should cost about $8.00 with the drivers.
Good Luck

Most graphics cards will allow you to run 256 colors. Do you have the
correct driver installed? To check, right click on My Computer on the
Windows Desktop, choose Manage, and then choose Device Manager from the
list presented. In the right-side window pane, if Display Adapters has a
plus (+) sign next to it, click on the sign to expand the section. You
should see your adapter displayed. Right click on it and choose Properties.
Select the Driver tab. Who is the Driver Provider? If it says Microsoft, you
need to install the driver for your specific video card. You should have
received a CD or diskette with the driver and possibly some support files.

I am having the same problem. 256 Colors no longer even shows as an option. What can I do?

Same answer, install the proper driver for the video card that is
installed in your PC. Get it from the video card manufacturers website
or from the CD that came with your videocard or PC.
