A few years back i got a pC built for me in Bangkok. I used the knowledge of a few on a Thai forum. So since this was about 3 years ago I am gonna upgrade a few things. RAM , HD and graphics card.
Currently i have this....

Athlon 64/3000 Socket 939 CPU
Mainboard with 939 socket with VGA slot
NEO 2
2x 512 Ram(400)
160GB HD (MT)

Graphics card is a Geforce FX 5900. Bare in mind my card is not PCI and i'm pretty sure my PC isnt either. Hence the graphics card. Its still a great card. But would like to upgrade to a newer faster card. One with at least Pixel shading 2. So what card would the experts suggest? Another thing. How easy for me to install RAM and HD on my own? I am into gaming and would like to be able to play the newer games at a higher setting. I can play Oblivion on my system as it is. The settings are adjusted to low. Though it still looks fantastic. Anyway. Any ideas about a card?

Actually Jock, you have 5 PCI slots ... your graphics is run off an AGP slot. ;)

I'll leave it to the more graphics card savvy members to come up with a good AGP alternative ... :thumb:

It would be nice to know what the MB actually is named though. :D

Ok thanks for that.

What is your budget for everything?

As little as poss. No seriously maybe at the most. $1000 AUD. But the cheaper the better.

That works out at just over £400 for our UK readers. ;)

Here is your Motherboard ... please note the statement in red. However, Crucial should point you in the right direction for their correct memory. Check the mem you have is either single-sided or double-sided ... just open the case and look. :thumb:

A new hard drive is easier to chose ... pick one, a SATA drive will not offer you much in the way of speed as your MB is of the older format and will not benefit from SATA 2. May as well just get a decent EIDE (PATA) drive. :thumb:

Again, I'll leave it to the more graphics card savvy members to come up with a good AGP alternative ... this is going/may be your biggest expense.

$1500-$2000 AUD ... ;)

The MB is the platform for everything ... so, you will need a few more new components to go with it.

Stick with your original idea, or get a new PC. :thumb:
